Partnering & Contact Workshop
For Experienced Movers Comfortable with Lifting & Flying
We start the class by opening our channels of awareness and connecting to our partners by testing their structure and weight. A special focus is on using our whole body, rather than just our hands and arms. Through playfulness, we connect to our instinctive side, tuning into a shared natural flow of breath.
Through exercises in different constellations, constantly changing and adapting to new partners, we listen, follow and direct movement as one functioning organism through space. We get ready to jump, cross, push, pull, avoid, embrace, carry and suspend each other.
Our focus is on an organic way of partnering, based on action/reaction principles inspired by contact improvisation, acrodance, social dances and fighting techniques. We approach movement through deeper connection, avoiding the habit of copying shapes. Instead, we encourage each couple to find their own way of communicating and explore individual solutions and variations.
Another important aspect is the constant change in levels of activity for both roles. We investigate how much resistance, power and direction are needed to reach our maximum together.
Each class ends with fixed partnering material, including extracts from Porzellan Haus and Seelengrund.
