About the Course
This 10-week module explores the dynamic intersection between contemporary dance technique and Contact Improvisation (CI). Rather than treating them as separate disciplines, we approach them as complementary practices: contemporary dance provides spatial awareness, fluid floorwork, and dynamic range, while CI offers the listening, weight-sharing, and organic dialogue necessary for authentic partnering.
What We Will Explore
Gravity & Floorwork: Cultivating fluid transitions in and out of the floor, understanding the mechanics of momentum, and finding efficiency in movement.
Weight Sharing & Physics: Learning how to give, receive, and negotiate weight safely through subtle points of contact and dynamic off-balance.
Relational Awareness: Bridging physical sensation with conscious intention—moving from active listening to spontaneous dialogue.
Instant Composition: Translating contact principles into group dynamics, spatial awareness, and improvisational structures.
